Two: what should we &lt;i&gt;keep&lt;/i&gt; &lt;b&gt;from &lt;/b&gt;doing?   &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; "&gt;&lt;div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; "&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; "&gt;&lt;b&gt;New International Version&lt;/b&gt; (NIV)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; "&gt;The NIV does not use &lt;i&gt;keep&lt;/i&gt; as a translation as frequently as the ESV.  The translators of the NIV chose words like &lt;i&gt;does,&lt;/i&gt; &lt;i&gt;continue&lt;/i&gt;&lt;i&gt; &lt;/i&gt;and&lt;i&gt; obey &lt;/i&gt;more often than &lt;i&gt;keep &lt;/i&gt;(1 John 2.3-5. 3.22-24).  Though sometimes it will use the word &lt;i&gt;keep&lt;/i&gt; (1 John 3.6, 5.21).  Look at each chapter and keep two lists.  One:  What should we continue to &lt;i&gt;do&lt;/i&gt;? God loved(s) us when we were far from him.  He loved us enough to offer his only son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. God sacrificially [i.e. &lt;i&gt;propitiation&lt;/i&gt;] loves us.  Meditate on God's love. "You are clean, why are you going back into the muck?"  Logically, this makes great sense.
